Who would take the garlic’s side?

Here’s something you didn’t know about GARLIC. According to an old superstition, garlic and onion can destroy a magnet’s property of drawing iron. Apparently, Ptolemy believed it. WHAAAAT? Ptolemy was the same guy who gave me a lot of trouble in geometry class with his PTOLEMY’S THEOREM. Well, actually, pretty much everyone who had a theorem in geometry gave me a lot of trouble (GEOMETRY was, and still remains, the puzzle of my life). But had I known Ptolemy believed that garlic can destroy a magnet, I would have felt a lot less foolish about not understanding whatever he was saying about the cyclic quadrilateral.

It took hundreds and hundreds of years until this guy, Sir Thomas Browne (never heard of him), came around in 1600s and said that the thing about the garlic and the magnet “IS ALL LIES” (Exact quote). Finally, a man with the guts to take the garlic’s side!

See you,

Misty
