Let’s revive the goddess who takes care of shit!

Here’s something I’ve learned this week: that there was a goddess of the sewers. Her name was Cloacina, and she presided over the main sewer in Rome. I don’t know why that took me by surprise – that the Romans needed a goddess in the sewers to manage all the shit they generated, and that’s just in the main sewer. Imagine her meeting Apollo, let’s say: “Hey Cloacina, let’s go grab a drink.” And Cloacina says: “Just give me a few minutes. There’s some shit I need to take care of first.”

Actually this shows what the Romans thought was important – sewers. And the fact that we forgot Cloacina shows that shit is being mismanaged and running amok.

I think we need to revive the goddess who takes care of shit.

I wonder if Cloacina is on social media. I’d like to DM her: “Hey Cloacina, we need help! Really! We can’t handle all the shit that’s out there anymore. Can you help us, PLEASE? We’ll pay. We no longer do animal sacrifice, but do you have PayPal?”

No answer, as of yet, from Cloacina.

See you,

Misty
