WONDER WOMAN 1984: my thoughts & review

I’ve watched WW1984, and here are my thoughts! SPOILER ALERT! This post contains spoilers, so stop here, or be spoiled!

– Opening scene in Themyscira – one of my favorite scenes! – makes me feel like I’m about to watch Jurassic Park.
– Next, the montage in 1984 was pretty good but a little overkill. I felt like I was watching a James Bond movie with Roger Moore, always adding too much.
– WW watching the plane go by overhead – that was cheesy! Is she wistful every time she sees a plane in the sky? Because she’d be down a lot.
– Ok, the question everyone’s asking: Why does Steve come in someone else’s body? That’s a terrible wish fulfillment. And it couldn’t have lasted long anyway. Steve took someone else’s life. Would he have lived with that?
– Fashionwise, I found out something I had no idea was ever a thing but was a thing in the 80’s: layered pullovers with collars popped. Wow! I’m speechless…
– The ring thing (from the wish stone) was very Lord of the Rings to me, the One Ring thing – why was there no follow-up about that ring? Oh, and if there’s a third WW movie, will the ring be on WW’s shelf in her apartment?
– Ok, I didn’t realize from the first WW that Steve was so obsessed with planes; I thought he was just a great spy who could fly planes; spying was more his passion, not the plane flying, I thought.

Incidentally, I wonder how many shots with planes they did and then edited out.

– I loved the invisible jet! BTW, how do you land an invisible jet?
– What’s up with that drunk in trench coat Kristen Wiig beats up? Is he like a professional drunk harasser? Why is he always drunk in the street? Is his job really crapy?
– I missed what wish Max Lord made because I was talking about how big Chris Pine’s head was and got into a conversation about the advantages of a big head.
– Kristen Wigg wishes to be like WW, so how come she doesn’t get WW’s goodness?
– I loved the golden armor!! I was so looking forward to it, and it was disappointing. This was not a situation for the golden armor. Asteria used the armor to hold back armies of angry men. I don’t see why the armor was needed against the cheetah. And I don’t know but it looked like during the fight the golden wings were more getting in the way than helping.
– Glad we got to see the guy – the HANDSOME MAN – that Chris Pine took over – he really deserved to be alive at some point in the movie.

I’ve watched this movie twice, first, with 2 glasses of champagne, and second, with one glass of wine. The first time, my reaction was: Um… I expected more. The second time, my reaction: Oh, I like this! Not bad at all. I’ll watch it again. Not sure if a sober head made for a better movie.

BTW, next time I watch the movie, I’ll count how many times the word TRUTH is used.

CONCLUSION:

Not enough of a big story. In the first movie WW has to stop war, in this one WW has to stop wishes? Maybe people should think out their wishes better.

Not a very convincing villain – Max Lord seems to be just a very flawed man, not an arch villain. I mean, what kind of villain wants the wish stone so badly, he has to romance Kristen Wiig to get it? A villain would have killed Kristen Wiig and gotten the stone. He was just not villainous enough. I thought that WW would fight the god who created the stone, that’s what I was looking forward to.

DO I RECOMMEND IT? WW1984 is a movie I have a hard time disliking because everyone in it is soooo good. Gal Gadot is just stunning, always, and Kristen Wiig is funny and just wow in those thigh-high boots, and Chris Pine has that big head that’s hard to ignore. And Pedro Pascal was very good, too. He was making me very anxious about my health every time I saw him with the red eyes etc. I’d recommend WW1984 to anyone who watched the first WW movie. I watched it because of the first one, and I’ll watch the third one because of Wonder Woman.

See you,

Misty
