How do you treat your doors?

I found this door yesterday when I was out and about. It says it’s NOT A DOOR. But come on, it’s clearly a door. What’s going on here? How come this door’s deciding, just like that, that it doesn’t want to be a door anymore?

As a user of doors, I have to admit I’m a little worried. What will happen to us, the daily users of doors, if doors stop being doors? No more going in and out of places as you please, no more plotting behind closed doors, no more getting up and leaving the room when you’re pissed off – I guess you could use windows, but only if you’re on the first floor – no more laying the charge at whoever’s door, no more enjoying the out of doors because you’ll be too worried if you’re going to be able to get back indoors… Imagine if all doors were to say: That’s it, I’m NOT A DOOR from now on. That would be a very serious situation. We would all be stuck, unable to go anywhere.

I wonder what made this door decide it doesn’t want to be a door anymore. Is it tired of always being slammed shut, kicked, banged on, locked… ? Those are pretty serious grievances. Maybe the door is right to be sick of being a door. I mean, look how we treat our doors.

When I got home, to my happiness and relief, my doors were still doing door stuff, as usual, letting me in, letting me out, but I am seriously considering to change how I treat my doors. I’ve already been more considerate to the front and the back door, because I don’t want to wake up one day and find out I can’t leave the house because the doors have stopped being doors.

Far from me to tell anyone how to treat their doors, but if you don’t want to end up without doors, be kinder to them.

See you,

Misty
